Bar officers endorse Fogleman

Posted By on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 at 12:18 PM

Circuit Judge John Fogleman, a candidate for state Supreme Court against Appeals Court Judge Courtney Henry, rolled out a slew of endorsements today from former leaders of the Arkansas and American Bar Association.

Coincidentally, Mara Leveritt offers a decidedly different view of Fogleman in our cover story this week.

Thirteen past presidents of the Arkansas Bar Association and a former president of the American Bar Association from Arkansas announced their support for Judge John Fogleman’s campaign for Arkansas Supreme Court Wednesday.
Citing a need for extensive courtroom experience and a wealth of legal knowledge for a strong Supreme Court candidate, the former Bar Association Presidents gave a resounding vote of support to Judge Fogleman’s campaign for Associate Justice, Position 3.
Judge Fogleman has more than 29 years of legal experience, serving on the bench as a Circuit Judge in Arkansas’s Second Judicial District for 15 years, where he has made thoughtful legal decisions in thousands of cases.  Prior to his election to the bench, he served as a deputy prosecuting attorney, city attorney and private practice attorney.
“I am honored to have the support of a broad group of past presidents of the Arkansas Bar Association,” Fogleman said.  “Their support, along with the grassroots support from voters across our state is truly humbling and I hope to earn the support of even more Arkansans in the upcoming election.”
Quotes from several past presidents on why they believe Judge Fogleman is the most qualified candidate for the Arkansas Supreme Court:
"He is the candidate with the best experience, and trial experience is crucial to this job."
--Philip S. Anderson, Little Rock
"Based upon his experience as a practicing attorney, a prosecuting attorney, and as a judge, his strong work ethic and his dedication to the constitutional values that protect the rights of all citizens, Judge John Fogleman has my full support."
--Rosalind M. Mouser, Pine Bluff
“Judge John Fogleman, as a lawyer, prosecuting attorney and Circuit Judge, has forged a reputation for possessing cardinal judicial values:  he is courteous to those who appear in Court, works hard, prepares well and respects the intellectual demands of the law.”--Ron D. Harrison, Fort Smith

  • Where's the outrage?

Am I the only person, apart from federal prosecutors, outraged about the criminal enterprise that inveigled itself into a privileged position as an Arkansas taxpayer-financed human services provider to the tune, today, of $43 million a year?
