For the defense: Laura Bush

Posted By on Wed, Apr 28, 2010 at 6:28 AM

The former president's wife hits the bookstores with a spirited defense of her husband.

The lead news is that, for the first time, she gives a detailed account of the fatal accident for which she was responsible as a teenager.

Re criticism of Bush's flyover of New Orleans:

“He did not want one single life to be lost because someone was catering to the logistical requirements of a president,” she says about the Katrina fly-over. “He did not want his convoy of vehicles to block trucks delivering water or food or medical supplies, or to impede National Guardsmen from around the nation who were arriving to help.”

Needless to say, the flyover was not the main error in the Bush administration handling of Katrina.
