The long burger nightmare is over.

Doe’s Eat Place, closed by a kitchen fire March 19, will open for business at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15. After that, back to regular hours — lunch and dinner weekdays, dinner on Saturday.

A spokesman said owner George Eldridge used the occasion to do “a little updating” in addition to repairs to the kitchen. For one thing: You’ll see new linoleum on the floor, the same black-and-white tile pattern that had been worn down almost to bare concrete by scraping chairs and the footfalls of the famous, infamous, hungry and stuffed.
