Just in time for the election, legislators dredged up a $2,400 rug purchase by Lt. Gov. Bill Halter’s office to generate a negative headline for him to help Blanche Lincoln. The matter concluded today before the legislature’s Joint Auditing Committee. Bottom line: Nothing to see here. Move along. If accounting procedures have been followed — and they have been — of course the lt. gov. can buy a rug for his office.

This was a fake controversy ginned up for political gain. Period.
