Police, fire agree to postpone pay increase

Posted By on Sun, Jul 11, 2010 at 9:17 AM

The Little Rock police and fire unions have voted to defer a 4 percent pay raise they were due in January because of the city's financial difficulties. The unions had independently assessed the city's books and concluded money wasn't available, we were told last week. They'll get additional time off and the pay raise will move to 2011 The news release issued early this morning:

During this tough and unprecedented economic time for the City of Little Rock, Local #34 Little Rock Firefighters and the Little Rock Fraternal Order of Police have agreed by a majority vote of our members from both organizations to accept the city’s latest proposal which mainly consists of additional time off and an extension of our current agreements.

Firefighters and Police Officers struggled with this decision, but feel it is important that we work with the city during this budget shortfall. It is an honor for us to serve as Little Rock’s bravest and finest.
