John Daly's dungarees

Posted By on Fri, Jul 16, 2010 at 6:24 AM

Between his solid opening round and the loud pants, Arkansas golfer John Daly drew a lot of notice at the British Open yesterday. Typical is the New York Times:

Control has never been John Daly’s trademark, of course: not on a golf course and most definitely not off a golf course. But the fault lines and singular atmosphere of St. Andrews have brought out the best in him before, and instead of blowing yet another opportunity to start resurrecting his career, Daly grabbed this one from the first tee. He birdied the two opening holes in the early-morning gloom and built from there on his way to a six-under-par 66 with his purple paisley pants providing quite a contrast with the leaden sky.

“The good thing about them is you get dressed in the dark, any shirt is going to match,” Daly said.

As long as you stay in the dark it might: his peach shirt and pale blue sweater vest were far from the perfect fit.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
