Lincoln-Boozman 'debate' set

Posted By on Tue, Aug 3, 2010 at 3:36 PM

Sen. Blanche Lincoln will face Rep. John Boozman Aug. 13 in an appearance before the Association of Arkansas Counties. Members will suggest questions. Jessica Dean of KATV will moderate.

PS — I used "debate" in the headline, but I don't think that's how this is going to shake out exactly. If you're going, take a vente.

HOT SPRINGS — The highlight of this year’s Association of Arkansas Counties annual conference will be a Senatorial Candidate Forum featuring U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln and Congressman John Boozman. While this event is not open to the general public, AAC is inviting the state’s major media to cover it. The forum will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13 at the Hot Springs Convention Center.

Questions for the candidates are being solicited from among our membership — Arkansas’s elected county and district officials. The forum will be moderated by KATV correspondent Jessica Dean.

We are requesting that members of the media RSVP by 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 if you plan to cover this event, in order for us to help you by placing risers etc. ahead of time. You are welcome to cover the forum whether you RSVP or not — but if you do, it will help us to assure you a “good spot” for you to set up.

Please be aware that we will also have 500-plus county officials and employees present for the forum, so all set-up has to be completed ahead of time. It is our understanding that this will be the first time for these two candidates to share a stage in the 2010 campaign, so it should be very interesting!

“I am eager to debate Congressman Boozman so that Arkansas voters have the opportunity to accurately judge our respective achievements for the state,” Senator Blanche Lincoln said. “Arkansans know I have been an independent voice who always puts our state first, and they deserve to learn more about Congressman Boozman’s record. I have accepted several debate invitations, and I look forward to the opportunity of comparing our respective records in every corner of the state.”
