Happy days are here again

Posted By on Mon, Sep 20, 2010 at 10:05 AM

Many headlines this morning on the official finding that the recession, which began in December 2007, ended in June 2009 and the economy, though not back to normal, is recovering. It's the longest recession on record. The last five months were Obama's fault. The previous 18 were, of course, Bill Clinton's fault. That's why everyone will be voting Republican this year, hoping to restore the glory days of George W. Bush. (sarcasm alert)

By the way: Colin Powell cheers President Obama's accomplishments, though says he may not have communicated them very well.

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
