Tommy Smith hospitalized

Posted By on Fri, Sep 24, 2010 at 11:01 AM

This just in from KABZ (The Buzz)

Tommy Smith, 57, host of The Show With No Name on KABZ 103.7 The Buzz, had a medical emergency live on the air this morning around 9:30 a.m. 911 was called and he was transported to the nearest hospital. Management understands that his condition is stable.

“Thoughts and prayers of all the staff at Signal Media are with Tommy and his family at this time,” said Steve Jonsson, Vice President of Signal Media and General Manager of 103.7 The Buzz. “We are here to provide any support that they may need. And we ask the listeners to include the family in their thoughts and prayers as well.”

KABZ will communicate with the public his condition as information comes available.

Listeners say it sounded as if Smith had a seizure during the show. Stubby Stumbaugh, the former Cabot mayor, was on the show with his brother, who happens to be an EMT. The show was being broadcast from Frank Fletcher Dodge, not from the studio as I originally wrote.

Jim Harris has audio up on Arkansas Sports 360. There's a crash and a call for 911 before the station switched to a commercial.

UPDATE: The station reported late this afternoon that Smith was resting comfortably and his condition was not life threatening. The station has a page on its website for well-wishers.
