Fiscal conservatism

Posted By on Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 6:22 AM

Liberal Democrat Joyce Elliott finished her losing campaign for 2nd District Congress dead even on spending, according to this report from Stephens Media. The winning Republican, Tim Griffin, who's going to bring fiscal responsibility and a clean-sweep mentality to the entrenched Washington system, ended deep in the hole, nearly a quarter of a million in deficit spending. (CORRECTION: He has unpaid bills of almost $240,000 and about $90,000 cash on hand, for a current deficit, if all bills have been submitted, of about $147,000.) Not to worry, he had a big Washington debt retirement reception yesterday aimed at lobbyists and PACs. It is so much easier to get lobbyists to pay off your debt when you're about to ride into the halls of Congress. A real breath of fresh air, right?

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
