Republicans are spoiling to begin holding House votes to repeal or cripple the landmark health legislation. Now, says the New York Times, Democrats seem inclined to mount a defense, rather than run from it as many did in election year 2010.

Good idea. Should have done it earlier. For one thing, Democrats are hung with it regardless. For another, there is much to defend. Let the Republicans be branded as wanting to re-introduce the “doughnut hole” for seniors’ health coverage. Let them tell the millions previously denied health insurance that they must return to the back of the uninsureds’ bus. Let them tell families they may not cover their children. And so on.
