This is ethics reform?

Posted By on Thu, Jan 27, 2011 at 7:38 PM

Gasket blown here off the coast of China at the backslapping among legislators and commentators on the so-called bipartisan ethics package. It amounts to virtually no advancement in ethics regulation. No lawmaker will be delayed in moving into lobby ranks until 2015 — and then only presuming legislatures in 2012, 2013 and 2014 don't move to lessen this burdensome "advancement." No better reporting much less restrictions on the sewer of wining and dining by which votes are purchased in the Arkansas legislature on a regular basis. The legislative expense measure is window dressing of the smallest sort. Only the biggest grifters abused expenses and — as the last election showed — expense account padding didn't stop some of them from being elected againl including to higher office.

Don't add me to the standing ovation. This "ethics package" is sound and fury signifying nothing.

Bring on Bill Halter with some real reform.

Watching the Charlottesville spectacle from halfway across the country, I confess that my first instinct was to raillery. Vanilla ISIS, somebody called this mob of would-be Nazis.
