Mike Huckabee and Israel: Flapjawing again

Posted By on Sat, Feb 19, 2011 at 6:36 AM

There's been a ton of commentary about Mike Huckabee's comments on a recent visit to Israel, marked by a little Jewish stereotyping and a lot of application of the Bible to resolution of current-day political issues.

A friend forwards Matt Yglesias' Twitter to his blog post about the Huckster:

Shorter Huckabee: I'm uncomfortable around Jews & hate Arabs, so we should move America's Jews to the West Bank.

More from Yglesias here. He concludes:

I have no particular view on whether or not Abraham was a real historical person, but trying to view present-day political disputes as mere extensions of events that occurred thousands of years in the past isn’t going to have a happy ending.
