A Senate committee yesterday approved legislation for a two-year pilot program to allow state employee insurance coverage for weight-loss surgery — gastric bypass and lapband. The estimate is that it would increase insurance cost just under $3 per month per person. No idea of the chances in the House. Sen. Jimmy Jeffress, the sponsor, said the surgery could produce savings in better health of those who seek the option.
