Wednesday night line

* UALR Provost David Belcher has been named a finalist in a couple of searches by other colleges for top administrators — in Wisconsin and South Carolina. But the Wisconsin campus and the South Carolina campus report that Belcher has accepted a chancellor's job elsewhere. Where? Unclear. I'm trying to find out.

* New Mexico's governor has signed legislation banning corporal punishment in the state's public schools. Who will be last — Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama? 19 states still paddle. Join the campaign to end it.
