Cornyn says GOP health plan 'identical' to Obamacare

Posted By on Fri, Apr 15, 2011 at 9:52 AM

You read that headline right. A leading Republican senator, John Cornyn of Texas, says the Ryan proposal for Medicare is exactly the same thing as the "Obamacare" program adopted for everyone else. He can't understand why more Democrats aren't on board. That suggests a variety of followup questions. Key difference: Republican Obamacare (that is, implementation of insurance exchanges and private subsidies in place of single payer insurance on older people) would reduce existing Medicare benefits. The real Obamacare increased medical coverage for everyone not in Medicare. Terrible in one case. Better than nothing in the other.

Some more history on the Little Rock city ordinance that limits candidates for mayor and City Board to raising campaign funds to five months before the November 2018 election. It raises questions not only about Warwick Sabin's fund-raising tactics, but also Mayor Mark Stodola's carryover money.
