Fluoride is coming back to Boone County

Posted By on Fri, Apr 22, 2011 at 8:44 AM

Ginger Shiras reports for the Harrison Daily Times that fluoride is returning to the drinking water of Carroll and Boone Counties, thanks to a new state law.

Over some protests, the Carroll-Boone Water District decided to comply with the new state requiring fluoridation of water supplies with more than 5,000 customers. Several of the larger cities in the district, including Harrison, had once had fluoride in water, but when the water district was formed Eureka Springs objected to use of the chemical and so it was blocked for all customers. Actually adding the treatment to the district's water could take a year, Shiras reported.
