Restoring order in Pulaski County schools

Posted By on Wed, Jun 22, 2011 at 6:03 AM

Wasn't it calming to hear from Bobby Lester in the Democrat-Gazette this morning? The former superintendent named to temporarily lead the state's trusteeship of the Pulaski County School District said getting principals named and teachers prepped for new curriculum were more important than a huge building plan the district might not be able to afford at the moment. But it is worth remembering that the district's building policy has favored certain neighborhoods over others, a race-related shortcoming that a federal judge has noted. There are deficiencies to be corrected.

Plugging holes in this leaky ship might also include a thorough look at lingering suspicions about financial activities of some of the actors who played roles in the district's downfall. Bygones should not be bygones if they included law violations.
