I-440 blocked by chemical spill

Posted By on Mon, Jun 27, 2011 at 2:21 PM

The State Police says access to I-440 from I-40 has been blocked because of an overturned truck that spilled an acid cargo on the roadway.

Arkansas State Troopers have blocked access to I-440 from I-40 while work is underway to clear and upright an overturned commercial carrier truck. The crash scene involves one vehicle. Initial reports indicate a cargo of acid has spilled onto I-440 at I-40. No evacuations have been reported.

One minor injury as a result of the crash has been reported. State Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash scene.

Hazardous material crews estimate the highway may be blocked for as long as eight hours.

The downtown exits off I-40 are the preferred alternate routes.
