Gas station robbery suspect caught by cops

Police say they captured one of two men who robbed a Hess gas station on Geyer Springs Road about 10 p.m. last night. The other person is still being sought.

Details follow:

SUSPECT — EDWIN MARTIN, B/M, 12-04-1971, HOMELESS
VICTIM — HESS GAS STATION, 7715 GEYER SPRINGS RD.
INCIDENT DATE/TIME — 07-21-2011, 2157 HOURS
ARREST DATE/TIME — 07-21-2011, 2159 HOURS
ARREST LOCATION — 100 BLOCK OF EDA DRIVE

On July 21, 2011, at approximately 2157 hours, two masked black males entered the Hess gas station at 7715 Geyer Springs. One suspect stayed at the doorway while the second suspect displayed a pistol and forced the clerks to remove the registers. The second suspect took the registers and they both fled the business. The suspects then fled eastbound on Young Road.

Officers were patrolling in the area of 7700 Geyer Springs, when a witnessed flagged them down and advised that Hess gas station had just been robbed. The witness then pointed out two black male subjects that robbed the business. The suspects had just turned onto Eda Drive from Young Road. Officers approached the suspects and was able to place one of them in custody, but the second suspect fled on foot towards Willow Creek Apartments with the register drawers. A broadcast was made for the second suspect. Crime Scene and the detectives responded to the incident location to process the crime scene and interview victims/witnesses. Edwin Martin was also found to be in possession of a crack pipe and was transported to the Downtown Detective Division. Martin was charged with Aggravated Robbery, Theft of Property and Instrument of Crime. No injuries were report. Detectives are working on the identity of the second suspect.
