Trevino's tint job: Still no answer

Posted By on Thu, Oct 20, 2011 at 9:59 AM

It appears that I won't be getting an answer to why Robert Trevino, head of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, charged taxpayers $192 to get a full tint job on the windows of his state vehicle, a Chevy Equinox.

He called yesterday to say he'd be happy to answer the question, but preferred not to do it in conversation for fear I'd misquote him. He said he'd send a written answer. After no e-mail followed, I wrote again this morning. He responded that he'd have an answer shortly. But then he wrote again to say the agency's communications director had answered the question previously.

Not true.

This is what Deborah Germany said in response to my question of WHY the windows were tinted:

As stated in [Career Services Department] Director [Bill] Walker’s Oct. 14 e-mail, any maintenance and/or changes made to state vehicles are done by state agencies under guidelines.

What are those guidelines? Why were they invoked? The questions remain.

But there's this: four more people have written or called since yesterday with still more objections to management in the agency. They are perhaps all off-base, but it seems safe to say Walker and Trevino, however excellent their management, preside over a lot of unhappy campers.

I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
