Mayor Stodola takes own challenge — rides bus

Posted By on Mon, Nov 7, 2011 at 10:53 AM

ON THE BUS: Mayor Stodola.
  • ON THE BUS: Mayor Stodola.

The mayor took his own Car Free Challenge this a.m., riding his Orbea bike to a Heights bus stop, getting on (and racking the bike) and riding to Louisiana and Third streets with several CAT regulars, a few on board because of the mayor's challenge and some City Hall staff. One young man who appeared to be in his 20s and who had a backpack on — headed to Occupy LR, perhaps? — thanked the mayor for his bike-and-bus-to-work participation.

The mayor, rolling his bike to a meeting at the Statehouse Convention Center, said he knew the bus was impractical for people who must travel during the work day. He himself wasn't familiar with the route, asking where the stops would be. But you can't fault the idea. Spend some time at the bus stop at Kavanaugh and Markham at rush hour and breathe for yourself the reason it would be good to get some cars off the streets.

The mayor's Car Free Challenge has a Facebook page, if you want to know more.

  • Is the legislature 'routinely corrupt'? A few dozen examples say yes.

Is the Arkansas legislature routinely corrupt? In the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette today, one  legislator wrote in the op-ed section that it is not while Michael Wickline reported a powerful argument in favor on page one. And I list a lot more.

Here's the open line. For entertainment, if you have one minute, watch this political ad against  Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona. Wait for it.   In other news: It appears the hearing is on for Christine Blasey Ford to talk about Brett Kavanaugh's alleged sexual assault of her when she was 15 and he was an older high school student.
