Russellville Council censures anti-gay alderman 7-1

Here's a short version from the Russellville Courier on the City Council's 7-1 vote Friday to censure member Paul Northcut for comments he made in an e-mail opposing appointments to the Planning Conmission. Northcut wasn't happy about a Hispanic nightclub and an idea (unrealized) for a gay club in Russellville. We wrote about "Chaplain" Northcut previously.

Only Northcut voted against the resolution of censure, which said, in part that the mayor and City Council "believe the personal statements contained in the email correspondence of Alderman Chaplain Paul Northcut to be inappropriate and improper conducts of an elected public official sworn to uphold the laws of the State of Arkansas and United States.”

The newspaper will publish more on the meeting today.
