Monday, Monday

Posted By on Mon, Mar 5, 2012 at 4:58 PM

The first open line of the new week. Final words:

* DEMOCRATS REJECT FORMER REPRESENTATIVE: Of course the Arkansas Democratic Party has told Fred Smith, the former legislator with a felony conviction, that he isn't eligible to run for the seat again.

* GOT YOUR BACK: Attorney General Dustin McDaniel's office has rolled out a new webpage,, to provide answers to consumer complaints. Let me know what you think. PS — Republicans are pounding McDaniel for tapping legal settlement money to promote his office — I.e. himself— in advertising. In this case, at least, I think the settlement was written to allow use of money for his consumer protection division. Mark Darr is right, but he's only jealous that the a.g. has spare money to promote himself. Darr has to take freebies from the Chinese.

* ANTI-ABORTION GROUP BACKS RANKIN: The Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion PAC, has endorsed Beth Anne Rankin in the Republican primary for 4th District Congress. Nobody on that side of the ballot is pro-choice, but the endorsement means a little money and, presumably, a certain amount of stature for Rankin relative to Tom Cotton, who's the fair-haired boy of the inside Washington Republican crowd.

MAURICE: Lease announcements scheduled at this Hot Springs bathhouse tomorrow.
  • MAURICE: Lease announcements scheduled at this Hot Springs bathhouse tomorrow.

* BATHHOUSE ROW DEVELOPMENTS: The National Park Service will announce tomorrow leases of two historic buildings in Hot Springs to private developers. Announcement at 11 a.m. in front of the Maurice Bathhouse.

* GUN NUTTERY: The governing board of the University of Colorado can't bar students from packing concealed weapons, Colorado Supreme Court rules.
