Gunn's drug court reality show receives daytime Emmy

Former Circuit Judge Mary Ann Gunn's claim to TV fame, a reality drug court show, "Last Shot With Judge Gunn," won a daytime Emmy award in a ceremony yesterday in Hollywood. The show was in production hiatus last I heard, but this might jump start a new season.

The former Fayetteville judge, whose angling for TV stardom on the bench earned disapproval from state judicial ethics regulators, won for "Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program," besting "America's Court with Judge Ross," "Judge Joe Brown" and "We the People with Gloria Allred."

Photo of the winner here. And also here.

The Emmy show found itself somewhat enmeshed in a parallel reality — a murder/suicide in the Beverly Hilton, where the show was filmed, a few hours before showtime.

  • Open line: Plus, an expose on Little Rock police drug raids

Here's the open line, plus something worth reading: It's an account by Radley Balko of the Washington Post of a bust of a Little Rock man suspected of dealing drugs. The raid came up with virtually nothing — a tiny bit of marijuana. But 31-year-old Roderick Talley was arrested anyway. Good for him and bad for the cops, he had security video that recorded the happenings including a door-blowing no-knock raid.
