Rep. Justin Harris still proselytizing at tax-paid pre-school

A West Fork reader sends a current view of the sign at the West Fork pre-school operated by Republican state Rep. Justin Harris. The continued invocation of scripture would indicate he's not chastened by state Board of Education adoption of rules that prohibit expenditure of state money on religion in the Arkansas Better Chance program that pays for the attendance of most of the children who attend Harris pre-school.

He's complained on Twitter about the new rule.

Also on his Facebook page.

Interesting to me how an outside group can come into AR and bully Arkansans and chip away at our Religious Freedoms. The Board of Ed could have stood up against this group, but chose to coward down. Make up of the Board is interesting at best.

In that comment, Harris is arching an eyebrow at Gov. Mike Beebe's appointment of Hendrix professor Jay Barth, an ACLU supporter, to the state board. A favorite Republican trope these days is the supposed liberalism of Democrats, invoked to counter the extremist bent of the Republican legislative delegation and base. There are a few liberals. A precious few. A review of the state board membership appointed by Beebe also will show a banker whose livelihood depends on the Walton Family Foundation, a founder of a charter school, an El Doradan sprung from the Murphy-backed education improvement movement and other similar dangerous sorts.

The interesting irony on Harris' Facebook page is his unhappiness about the number of children in Arkansas covered by the ARKids insurance program. Poverty does qualify lots of Arkansas kids for government help on their health care. Harris is not similarly concerned about the percentage of public tax dollars that flow to his family in salary and building rental to pay for the children who attend his pre-school and Bible academy.
