Appeals court upholds conviction of bomber's wife

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld the conviction of Sangeeta Mann on charges that arose from prosecution of her husband, Dr. Randeep Mann, in the bombing of Dr. Trent Pierce, the chairman of the state Medical Board.

Here's the decision upholding her conviction for obstructing the investigation and aiding in evidence tampering. She had argued that she should have been tried separately from her husband. The court said, among other points it rejected, that the jury had been well-instructed to avoid prejudice to her by testimony about her husband, who also was convicted. The court also rejected her complaint that evidence wasn't sufficient by citing her involvement in removal of items from her husband's office and burning of material from their home that had links to others with potential involvement in the crime.

ALSO AT THE 8TH CIRCUIT TODAY: The court upheld fines assessed against the Greenbrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for not meeting Medicare standards in use of a blood-thinner prescribed for an elderly resident. An administrative law judge had set cumulative fines of more than $100,000.
