Hypocrite of the day: Charles Koch

Billionaire Charles Koch has written an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal about how corporate cronyism harms America. I kid you not. It has drawn understandable belly laughs on Daily Kos.

The piece got a Twitter tout from an Arkansas Republican legislator, Duncan Baird, who happens to be one of the better ones.

When I hoo-rawed Baird for praising a man who's busy with his family buying control of the American political system from the Pulaski Quorum Court through the Arkansas legislature all the way to the White House, Baird said his reference was just to what Koch "wrote."

Yeah, well there have been a lot of despots — enlightened and not — who've written nice-sounding things and then laid waste to humanity.

It was particularly laughable to see a Koch warn about cronyism, because it was the same word used by Reactionary Republican Rep. Nate Bell in a recent campaign missive. He's busy fighting cronyism, see? Bell, you may not remember, has had his wife hired by the Koch-financed Americans for Prosperity, which is busy spending huge unaccountable sums, maybe up to a million bucks, for control of the Arkansas legislature. That organization is also fighting watershed protection of Lake Maumelle, Central Arkansas's water supply. Might increase the cost of doing business, I guess. None dare call hiring a legislator's wife cronyism, of course.

Wrote Koch, with a straight face:

It shouldn't surprise us that the role of American business is increasingly vilified or viewed with skepticism. In a Rasmussen poll conducted this year, 68% of voters said they "believe government and big business work together against the rest of us."

They don't, Chuckie? Oh, right. You don't drink water from Lake Maumelle.
