Monticello district judge resigns; disciplinary proceeding withdrawn

Posted By on Thu, Oct 25, 2012 at 3:20 PM

The state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission announced today that District Judge Ken Harper of Monticello had resigned a future term and promised never to serve in the Arkanas judiciary again. As a result, pending complaints against Harper will be dismissed. Harper had resigned from the bench Sept. 19, but had not said anything about taking office again Jan. 1 to a new term for which he was unopposed in the May election. He has now resigned from that term, too.

He faced a lengthy list of allegations related in part to abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs. Removal from the bench was the ultimate sanction.
