U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor will not be left during this pre-election period looking soft on guns.

He told reporters today he opposed the proposed ban on military-style semi-automatic rifles, commonly referred to as assault weapons.

“It tends to focus on effect more than the cause,” Pryor said during a conference call with reporters.

I wish I’d been on the phone to ask him about high-capacity magazines and universal background checks, something even some Republicans now favor. But Pryor, newly installed as vice chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, probably has some bulldooky to spread around on those questions, too.
