Senate votes to close gun permit records

Posted By on Wed, Feb 6, 2013 at 2:56 PM

The vote was 24-9 in the Senate for the bill to make concealed carry permits secret. No more cross-checking of the many slips in the system or a means of checking when permit holders act out.The bill moves now to the House.

A Republican braying about the passage said this bill prevents disclosure of "private information." I.e., ZIP codes. Nothing else. And the fact of permit qualification attached to a name.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
