Highway commissioner John Burkhalter will make an announcement tomorrow that he's running for statewide office, Roby Brock reports. He has been widely rumored to be interested in a run for governor, joining Bill Halter and Mike Ross in the Democratic primary field. But his media advisory was coy about just which office he'll be seeking. Maybe lieutenant governor?

He's short on name recognition but worth around around $40 million, so he could make things interesting if he's willing to invest in his own campaign. Things could also get interesting in other ways!
