Court upholds former LR cop's conviction in armored car robbery

Posted By on Tue, Aug 6, 2013 at 10:55 AM

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld the convictions of Jason Gilbert, a former Little Rock police officer, and three other men in a 2007 armored car service robbery.

The court denied an argument that sufficient evidence hadn't been presented of a single conspiracy over the period of seveal years to plan a robbery. Testimony indicated the men made several unsuccessful attempts between 2005 and 2007 before one robbery finally was carried out.

The court also upheld an increased sentence for Gilbert as a former police officer. He monitored the police radio for possible police response to robbery attempts. He was sentenced to 3.5 years in March 2012.

Two other defendants, Allen Clark and Sterling Platt, also became law officers, for the VA and UAMS, after the 2007 robbery. Clark was sentenced to a year and a half in prison; Platt to a probationary sentence.
