The attorney general’s office said today that two former Perry County nursing home employees had been charged with felonies for using residents’ personal funds to buy clothes, jewelry and makeup for themselves.

Charged were Jewel Darlene English, 48, former administrator of the Perry County Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Sharla Renea Christie, 35, former office manager. Both live in Perryville.

The Medicaid Fraud Unit developed a case that the women stole more than $4,600 from trust accounts — English from eight residents and Christie from four. English faces six felony and two misdemeanor counts; Christie three felonies and one misdemeanor. They allegedly wrote checks from the accounts and signed them, then used cash for purchases at Dillard’s, Merle Norman and The Buckle.
