Last night’s right-wing fund-raiser for Extremist Republican Tom Cotton’s U.S. Senate campaign included some big names as hosts, partners at the powerhouse Gibson Dunn law firm.

If you want to highlight villains, a good place to start is Ted Olson, Kenneth Starr’s pal and one of the Federalist Society elves who plotted to bring down the presidency of Bill Clinton In more recent years, he was the leading court advocate for corporate personhood, arguing for Citizens United in the U.S. Supreme Court case that unleashed corporations to  have their way with the American electorate.

All that is good for Tom Cotton, he no doubt would believe. He’d endorse facilitating corporate profits over  spending tax dollars on working poor people in need of medical care every time.

But Ted Olson cuts both ways, one of them a way Tom Cotton probably wouldn’t like to advertise. Olson joined David Boies in the legal fight to strike down California’s ban on same-sex marriage and has taken that argument to the U.S. Supreme Court.

It’s sort of like Bloomberg and Pryor on guns. I’m not sure you hurt Tom Cotton in Arkansas by linking him to a supporter of Citizens United. But catch him pocketing money from an outspoken advocate of gay marriage? See yesterday’s Arkansas Poll.
