Belatedly I've gotten around to inquiring about a topic of some interest in the Heights area — the recent clearance of property along the 6000 block of R Street, including a building on the northside that once housed a church.

I haven't gotten far. The property is owned by R Street Springdale LLC. The property remains zoned single-family residential (customary for churches, Dana Carney tells me) and there are no applications on file to change the use of the property.

Hal Kemp, a Little Rock lawyer, is listed on corporate papers as manager of the LLC. He politely declined to answer any questions about the property. Except, he said he would debunk one hot rumor — that the property was owned by Witt Stephens Jr. Not so, he said. One rumor had it that luxury condos were envisioned. Kemp said he'd give a shout when there are developments to report.

UPDATE: However, one of my careful records checkers notes that a post office box listing for the R Street LLC is the same as that listed for the Carol and Witt Stephens Charitable Foundation. I"ve asked Kemp further about that. But he was out to lunch. Left a message with his helper at the Stephens Group. But, further checking at county treasurer records shows the taxes on the property are paid by Campbell Ranch LLC, whose officers include Elizabeth and Craig Campbell. She is Witt Stephens' daughter.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
