Metroplan,
the council of local governments in the Little Rock metro area, has issued its 2013 Economic Review and  Outlook.

It includes data and articles on local business developments, such as the innovation center in North Little Rock and research efforts at UAMS.

Highlights, according to a summary release:

* Job growth is less than the U.S. average, but ahead of the state average and has improved in the last year.

* Housing construction was up only marginally, but Cabot and Benton led the way with 35 and 16 percent growth in single-family house construction.

* This was interesting, if not exactly surprising on reflection:

A comparison of census data of 1990 and 2010 reveals that young adults age 25 to 34 in Central Arkansas demonstrate a greater preference for living in the urban core rather than outlying areas.

Entrepreneurship is the main focus of the publication. You can read it all here.

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
