Texas judge rules state ban on same-sex marriages unconstitutional

Posted By on Wed, Feb 26, 2014 at 1:33 PM

Add Texas to the growing list of states where judges — this one federal — have ruled that bans on same-sex marriage are unconstitutional. The Texas case in San Antonio was brought by a couple legally married in another state and a couple hoping to marry in Texas. Arkansas state and federal court challenges are pending that raise similar arguments.

Briefs are due Friday in Circuit Judge Chris Piazza's court on motions for summary judgment in the state case. Lawyers working on that case are also working on the federal case and anticipate moving on federal requests when the state work is completed.
