Lawrence Hamilton
, the musical director for opera star Jessye Norman who returned to his native Arkansas to direct choral activities at Philander Smith, has died.

Tributes on Hamilton's Facebook page say Hamilton, who was inducted into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame and the Arkansas Entertainers Hall of Fame for his career, died as the result of a gastrointestinal blood clot. A caller says he died during surgery in New York City.

Hamilton had just completed a run of "The Piano Lesson" at the Cape Fear Regional Theater in North Carolina.

I'll post more when we know more.
