Riverfest is withholding full payment of its contract with headliner CeeLo Green because it believes he didn't fulfill the contract's obligation on the length of his show.

Cheddy Wigginton, an accountant and spokesman for the Riverfest board, said:

It is Riverfest's opinion that CeeLo did not fulfill his contractual duties and, thus, Riverfest  has, so far, only paid CeeLo his initial deposit.

CeeLo was the Saturday night closing act at the First Security Ampthieater for Riverfest, a Memorial Day weekend festival run by a nonprofit organization with significant help from the city of Little Rock in Riverfront Park and other areas.

When I asked for more details, Wigginton responded by text:

We have a signed contract that CeeLo would play a 75-90 minute show and it is our opinion he did not and for the sake of providing quality entertainment for our festival goer we decided to hold his final payment. I can't confirm the actual dollars involved but I can say that most entertainers require a 10-50% deposit and CeeLo's was on the higher end of the deposit range.

Negotiations?

We fully anticipate visiting with his Team CeeLo tomorrow.

Final figures haven't been released but Riverfest, despite a good crowd, had a drop in attendance from last year. Ticket prices increased and organizers also said the recent tornado seemed to have had an impact on the potential audience.

I asked if Wigginton thought weather could be offered as an excuse. He said no. And he said Riverfest officials were in discussions with Green's managers "as the situation was developing" and no excuse was offered for abbreviating the show.

CeeLo is getting low marks in comment already underway on our Facebook page. One reader said his show started late.

Wigginton said he played about 40 minutes. He was preceded by performances by other parts of his team, which he might claim as part of the contracted appearance.
