Rasmussen poll: Mike Ross up 2 over Asa Hutchinson

Posted By on Thu, Aug 28, 2014 at 12:27 PM

Rasmussen, a polling firm generally viewed as having a Republican bias, follows a poll yesterday
with a narrow edge for Mark Pryor in the race for the U.S. Senate with a poll showing Democrat Mike Ross leading Republican Asa Hutchinson in the race for governor 46-44.

This appears to be from the same sample Monday and Tuesday of 750 likely Arkansas voters. Non-subscribers don't have access yet to full internals on this poll. It showed three percent for another candidate and 7 percent undecided. It's a departure from recent polling which has tended to show Hutchinson with a lead, though always with numbers in the 40s. It's a 9-point shift for Rasmussen. Negative ads against Asa working? Positive ads such as the one above introducing more Arkansans to the former 4th District congressman? Bad poll? Nov. 4 will tell.

I wonder how those numbers would have looked had the likely voters been aware of the facts of Asa's record as U.S. drug czar and not the spin Chris Christie put out yesterday about Hutchinson's leadership. He flew Lear jets around and took a lot of meetings, but the Bush administration itself acknowledged that drug use went up during his tenure and dropped after. A good account here. But, the Democratic Party also reminds, he even got busted by John Stossel, nobody's idea of a liberal, when he took credit for a drop in drug use that actually occurred years before he became DEA chief and then held study during his tenure.

  • Trump immigration protest at LR: Quick and fierce

It was not even 24 hours ago that Sophia Said, director of the Interfaith Center; City Director Kathy Webb and others decided to organize a protest today of Donald Trump's executive order that has left people from Muslim countries languishing in airports or unable to come to the US at all — people with visas, green cards,a  post-doc graduate student en route to Harvard, Google employees abroad, families. I got the message today before noon; others didn't find out until it was going on. But however folks found out, they turned out in huge numbers, more than thousand men, women and children, on the grounds of the state Capitol to listen to speakers from all faiths and many countries.
