KNWA is reporting an accident
involving a freight train and a passenger train near the community of Brentwood in the vicinity of West Fork. Injuries are reported in the remote area of Washington County.

KNWA says employees of the Arkansas and Missouri Railroad are at the scene. The company operates an excursion train as well as freight trains on a line between Springdale and Van Buren. KARK is reporting that a freight train and passenger train collided. A Fire Department is reporting injuries.

UPDATE: KNWA said the excursion train stalled and another train sent to provide assistance collided with the stopped train. Six of those injured were train crew. The collision caused a diesel fuel spill. 44 people were on the two trains and the total number of injured has been put at 34, with five people suffering critical injuries.

Both trains derailed. The accident caused closure of nearby U.S. Highway 71 for a time.
