Nervous at newspapers as jobs get cut

GateHouse newspapers, a part of the New Media company that recently purchased all Stephens Media newspapers, including several in Arkansas but not its share of the joint venture with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in Northwest Arkansas, is laying of people around the country, Romenesko reports. No impact reported in Arkansas. The layoffs are coming at former Halifax Media newspapers. Halifax was another property in which the Stephens empire was once invested but sold to New Media.

New Media's biggest papers in Arkansas are in Fort Smith and Pine Bluff.
