A North Little Rock legislator's bill that provides two lethal injection recipes for the state Department of Correction to choose from in executions was endorsed yesterday by the House Judiciary Committee.

Republican Rep. Douglas House's HB1751 prescribes a lethal cocktail of a sedative and a muscle relaxer topped off up with an injection of potassium chloride to stop the heart. Alternatively, the execution could be carried out by injection of lethal dosage of barbiturates.

The same committee also endorsed a HB1197 by Fayetteville Rep. Gred Leding to eliminate sentences of life without parole for offenders who were juveniles at the time of their arrest.

The Arkansas News Bureau reports on the bills, and another that would require ignition interlock devices for DUI first offenses, here.
