Hillary Clinton declares a constitutional right to same-sex marriage

Posted By on Wed, Apr 15, 2015 at 1:31 PM

HIllary Clinton, having once said she supported the drive to achieve marriage equality on a state-by-state basis, now says she belives in a constitutional right to marriage by same-sex couples. The U.S. Supreme Court may or may not agree with her come June, though some three dozen states now number in the equality column.

Some thoughts:

1. She'll be criticized for changing positions.

2. She'll be cheered for changing positions.

3. Anybody who thinks equal rights for gay people is a sure winner in politics hasn't spent much time in Arkansas or many other states, including those that have equality but only thanks to court orders.

I welcome any and all whose positions have joined the equality ranks over time. The polls show Hillary is among millions whose outlooks have changed. Or else it is just the product of the death of old people and the rising percentage of young people who don't care much about others' sexual orientation.
