Timely.

A Republican state legislator, Justin Harris, a daycare operator, has admitted an act that would now be a felony in fobbing off child to the home of a sexual predator. Another former Republican legislator, Jim Bob Duggar, star of a TV show, failed to report repeated incidents of child molestation in his own home, though he and his wife have led a campaign to demonize gay people as child molesters.

Reaction? Not a single Republican colleague has chastised either Harris or Duggar. Indeed, Republicans have risen to defense of both men. One condemned the Arkansas Times to hell for writing about the Harris “rehoming” case. Another Republican senator has angrily denounced the reports on the serial molestation and demanded a police investigation of how it happened. The capper is tonight. Fox News’ Megyn Kelly has been given exclusive access to Duggar parents in the home where molestation has occurred to show how THEY have been wronged by reports on the case.

Victims? What victims?

Our guest writer, a victim of child sexual abuse, has this to say in part:

I am shocked at the way the political system has failed to hold the Harrises and the Duggars accountable. Republican leaders should be denouncing them, and in Harris’ case forcing him from office.

It tells me all I need to know about the modern Republican Party that Mike Huckabee’s support for needed and popular tax increases for education, health care and parks will hurt his presidential bid more than his embrace of serial rapists, murderers and child molesters.

It tells me all I need to know about the Democratic Party that it cannot even muster the moral courage to stand against a child abuser in the halls of government. Justin Harris deserves more than a strongly worded press release. Can you imagine what the Republicans would do if the Democrats were coddling a child abuser?

I believe in redemption and penance. I have no ill will toward my abusers, and I believe Justin Harris and the Duggar clan deserve a shot at forgiveness. But my abusers are not running a preschool facility for children, and they are not denouncing gay and lesbian families as child molesters.

There’s more. Check it out.
