The Episcopal Church Wednesday joined a small but growing number of churches approving same-sex marriages (Christian churches, please note, Bro. Rapert). The Unitarian Universalist Church was well out in front of the parade, with a policy of non-discrimination going back more than 40 years.

In that tradition, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Little Rock will open its doors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11, for any same-sex couple to marry. For free. Its announcement:

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Little Rock (UUCLR) will open its doors on Saturday, July 11, 2015, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to perform same-gender wedding ceremonies.

As part of the the Unitarian Universalist Association effort titled “Just Marriage,” the UUCLR interim minister Reverend Jennie Barrington and two UUCLR members licensed in Arkansas to officiate weddings will preside, and the church sanctuary will be used for the ceremonies. There is no fee for either the location or for the officiant.

Couples should bring their licenses with them and need only to show up between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get married. Family and friends are very welcome to attend and celebrate! If you need more information, call UUCLR at 501-225-1503 and leave a message. Someone will return your call. UUCLR is located at 1818 Reservoir Road in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Unitarian Universalists around the country have a long history of celebrating, honoring, performing and recognizing same-gender marriages. It is the hope of the association to perform at least one marriage in each of the fifty states as well as in the District of Columbia within a 48 hour period that weekend, and the church in Little Rock hopes to perform many.
