  • PLEADS GUILTY: Crystal Lowery.
Crystal Lowery, charged along with her husband Arron Lewis in the abduction and slaying of real estate agent Beverly Carter, pleaded guilty today to first-degree murder and kidnapping and was sentenced by Judge Herb Wright to 30 years in prison. She is expected to testify against Lewis (I erroneously wrote Carter in this reference originally) at his murder trial in January.

Carter's body was found several days after she disappeared after going to show a home for sale in Scott.

Lowery told reporters as she left court that she was sorry for Carter's death. Her divorce suit against Lewis is pending. It says that when he married Lewis she wasn't aware he was a seven-time convicted felon. He's contested the divorce.

Great piece in Washington Post on the budget crisis in Louisiana. Big tax cuts and corporate welfare will do that to a state, particularly to a state whose previous governor, Republican Bobby Jindal, refused to join the Obamacare-funded Medicaid expansion. There's a lesson there for Arkansas.
