Van Buren county clerk plans two forms of marriage licenses in response to marriage ruling

A reader sent me a copy of this letter distributed by Van Buren County Clerk Pam Bradford regarding how she intends to proceed in unhappily issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. The letter also appeared yesterday as a letter to the editor in the local newspaper.

A new state law allows issuance of licenses without a signature by a clerk. A reader asks about the legality of having separate forms for marriage license applicants — one with gender specified and one without. That's a question I'll pursue later today. I've sent a note to Bradford asking if such license applications will be a matter of choice of couples or issued according to a decision by the office. When last I checked, the office had had no applications by same-sex couples.

Note that Bradford confirms what readers have said previously: This defender of "traditional" marriage has had a number of them herself (four by one account). Her Facebook page makes frequent use of the Confederate flag.
