Four escaped buffalo in Hot Springs quickly caught

Arkansas Online's Gavin Lesnick reports

Four buffalo escaped from an enclosure in Hot Springs early Monday but were quickly re-caught, officials said.

Dan Bugg, director of the Hot Springs Animal Services Department, said three adult buffalo and one young one managed to get out in the area of the 700 block of Ridgeway Street sometime before sunrise but had been re-secured by 7:30 a.m.

These are believed to be the same buffalo who escaped back last spring. That escape was more dramatic — after a day-long chase, three were caught and tranquilized; two others died, one after being hit by a car.

The Hot Springs animal beat has been a busy one; thirteen baby gators were recently nabbed from the Arkansas Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo in Hot Springs. That notorious case remains unsolved.
